2017 was a momentous year at WIFT-T and for women in our industry. The emergence of the #MeToo, Time's Up, and #AfterMeToo movements are significant catalysts for change in our industry. Born as a response to injustices women face in the workforce, these movements are ushering in the 'new normal'. Through the actions of some brave and driven women, we're seeing more advocacy work around gender parity, wage equity, diversity, and inclusion. The work to create a 'new normal'—a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workforce—continues on, and we're proud of the many women and men who've dedicated themselves to this movement.
At WIFT-T, we have grown even more committed to our mission to empower and support women as they connect, learn, advance, and fuel the change in Canada's screen-based media industry.
In 2017, we celebrated milestones (30 years of the Crystal Awards), hit decade-high numbers in membership, launched four new initiatives, and proudly applauded the achievements of so many of our members. We also welcomed a new partner, Hollywood Suite, and raised over $10,000 to support the Foundation for WIFT-T.
Some highlights:
In 2018, we are building on our legacy with a focus on amplifying WIFT-T’s voice as an advocate for gender equity, diversity and inclusion in Canada’s screen-based media industry; and providing our members with a tailored membership experience through which they can advance their careers, strengthen their network, grow as leaders and changemakers, and continue to champion the work of other women in the industry.
