2019 WIFT-T Showcase Official Selection: Mustard Seed

Submitted by Lina Roessler.

Director/Writer: Lina Roessler

Producers: Lina Roessler, Fabian Martin Diering

Cinematographer: Johannes Louis

Memories of the past linger in the gentle sway of mustard seed fields for an elderly survivor,  who is forced to relive the murder of his family that he witnessed as a child.

Lina Roessler starkly juxtaposes beautiful images of lush nature, fields, and insects with human aggression and brutality — exploring themes of life, death, and the lingering effects of trauma on an individual. While time passes and nature continues to thrive, devastation and grief also remain prevalent and remembered for Mustard Seed’s protagonist. Mustard Seed examines the heartbreaking impact of war with empathy and emotion; reflecting gently on grief, trauma, and time.
